The Compoids (コンポイド, Konpoido) are the human-like cyber natives to the Computer World in the Gridman Universe. A compoid named Unizon (ユニゾン, Unizon) made its representative debut to her species in episode 6 of Gridman the Hyper Agent.

History

Gridman the Hyper Agent

Unizon was first mentioned as an urban legend of the Sound Spirit (音の精霊, Oto no Seirei) whose appearance is identified by the treble clef-like emblem on her dress.

She appeared to prevent Gridman from killing Anosillus stating that the monster simply went berserk from the contaminated music which brainwashed it. She tried to purify the monster with her music, but Takeshi disarm her from her baton. Yuka gets the idea to play through Ippei's keyboard and purify Anosillus with her music, allowing the monster to undo the damages done to Sakuragaoka.

As a token of appreciation, Unizon and Anosillus gifted and installed the Gridman Sword combination program through the Barrier Shield and Plasma Blade.

SSSS.GRIDMAN

During Zegga's rampage, Alexis・Kerib explained to Rikka that she and the entire citizens of Tsutsujidai were Repli-Compoids (レプリコンポイド, Repuri Konpoido), artificial humans created by Akane to inhabit her virtual town as part of her escapism from reality. However as each Repli-Compoid became individual sapient beings, Akane created monsters to eliminate those she deemed unworthy or had wronged her in certain ways while having the Venoras cleansing the city per operation to cover the damages and realtering the murdered Repli-Compoids' memories from its citizens.

Akane added that despite the numerous atrocities she committed, the Gridman Alliance members are incapable of hating her as their programming forbid them to do so.

Powers and Abilities

• Performance Baton: Unizon's main weapon which she twirls it clockwise to access its abilities.
  • Purifying Melody: In her futile attempt to save Anosillus, Unizon unleashes a melody to soothe the brainwashed monster.
  • Program Creation: Although the ability's true extent is unexplored, Unizon and Anosillus are capable of updating the Barrier Shield's programming, allowing it to combine with the Plasma Blade into the Gridman Sword.

Trivia

• The name was only mentioned by the narrator at the very end of Unizon's episode debut with no proper explanation of their origin and lore for the rest of the series.
  • In the original plan, the Compoids were supposed to be given a bigger involvement in the story to appear in groups, but Tsuburaya scrapped the idea due to the heavy use of special effects required.
  • The term "Compoid" was scrubbed from the English subtitles of the episode provided by Amazon and Tsuburaya's YouTube channel.
  • In the Crunchyroll subtitle and Funimation dub of SSSS.GRIDMAN, the translation of Alexis' Repli-Compoid term was altered into "replica". This is probably due to the international audience not familiar with the Original Series' terminology and was hid for convenience purposes.
